KAWASAKI KLX 250CC MODIFICATIONS FOR ENDURO OFF-ROAD DIRT BIKE TRAIL RIDING
With a few modifications the dual purpose Kawasaki KLX 250cc dirt bike can be turned into a great off-road dirt bike capable of handling all sorts of challenging terrain.
The key modifications to make in turning your Kawasaki KLX 250cc dual purpose bike into a real off-road dirt bike is firstly to change the tires to proper off-road knobby tires. Then it’s a good idea to add an oversize bash plate to protect the engine from the off-road obstacles you will inevitably encounter. Also the standard handlebar won’t accept too many falls so it’s a good idea to change the handlebar with a stronger, lighter alloy handle bar. Generally you don’t need as much top end speed whilst riding off-road, so it’s also good idea to increase the size of the rear sprocket to give you more bottom end torque. You can even decrease the size of the front sprocket, however I generally find that this is not needed. Change the standard exhaust pipe for a full power racing exhaust. Not only does this increase performance it also helps for safety, as riders approaching from the opposite direction can hear you coming especially if riding as a group. Lastly you can take out the snorkel to increase the airflow. If you want to get really adventurous the buying a big bore kit is also a welcomed upgrade.
Below is a video demonstrating how the Kawasaki KLX 250cc can easily handle the off-road tracks and trails. I am riding with the GoPro Hero 2 helmet camera on a Kawasaki KLX 2012 250cc and Thailand enduro champion Manoch Abdulakaree is riding in front on a Honda XR600. The video clearly demonstrates how the Kawasaki KLX 250cc is easily able to handle the terrain and keep up with the Honda XR600.
